Fourteen nights in June, in a room that held 31°C at midnight, and this was the only blanket we didn’t kick off. The cotton shell is the reason — everything else in the test traps heat within twenty minutes. The removable cover survived two machine washes with no bead migration and no puckering at the seams. The stitched pockets are 12 cm square, small enough that the weight stays where you put it when you turn over.

The value pick, with a caveat. Weight is accurate and the glass-bead fill is genuine, but the microfibre shell is a heat trap — usable from November to February in most of India and unpleasant after that. Bead pockets are 18 cm, which is large enough that the fill slumps toward your feet if you sleep restlessly. Hand wash only, which in practice means it gets washed less often than it should.

The lightest blanket in the test and the most pleasant to touch. Bamboo viscose moves air properly, and it came out of the wash dry by lunchtime — which matters if you’re in Kochi or Mumbai. At 3 kg it suits a 30 kg child or an adult who wants weight across the lap rather than the whole body. Treat it as a throw, not a duvet replacement.

Every blanket is bought at retail with our own money. We weigh it, measure the quilted pocket size, sleep under it for fourteen nights, and run it through a 6 kg front-load machine twice on a 30°C cotton cycle. Bead migration is checked by laying the blanket flat and photographing the pockets against a grid. Brands do not see the review before publication.
About 10% of your body weight. A 70 kg adult wants 7 kg; a 45 kg teenager wants 4 to 5 kg. Round down if you’re a side sleeper or new to weighted bedding.
Only with a cotton or bamboo shell. Polyester and microfibre blankets are genuinely unusable above about 28°C at night.
Glass beads, every time. They’re denser, so the blanket is thinner for the same weight, and they’re silent. Pellets rustle and clump after a few washes.
Not under two years old, and never one heavy enough to restrict movement. For older children, 10% of body weight and a blanket they can push off unaided.
Check whether the cover unzips. If it does, wash only the cover. If it doesn’t, a 6 kg domestic machine can handle up to about a 5 kg blanket — heavier than that needs a laundry.
